How to get there:
Catch the ferry from Central Pier 4 to both Yung Shue Wan and Sok Kwu Wan. Ferries depart about every half hour or so in the morning with longer intervals in the afternoon. The ride to/from Yung Shue Wan is only 20 minutes. From Yung Shue Wan Main Street, walk past Lamma Winds and Hung Shing Yeh Beach and you will meet the start of the Trail. Tai Long Wan Hiking Trail is long but isn't complicated - in fact, this stretch undulates gently making it easy for all kinds of hikers. The trail begins near the Sai Wan Pavilion. The path from the entrance eventually leads you along the hillside which offers stunning views of the High Island Reservoir. The next stop would be Sai Wan and Ham Tin Wan which are home to the most fascinating beaches - pristine, beautiful and refreshing - that boast of white sands and aquamarine waters. Small food stalls and stores selling beverages are available in the area. The trail slowly ends in Chek Keng where a scenic view of a nearby islet welcomes successful hikers. How to get there: Options from Sai Kung Town Centre: 1. Take the MTR to Choi Hung (green line), get out at Exit C and get the 1A green minibus to Sai Kung. 2. Take the MTR to Hang Hau (purple line), get out at Exit B, walk to the bus terminus on your left, get the 101 green minibus. 3. Exit the MTR at Diamond Hill (green line) and take exit C then take bus 92. 4. Take the MTR to Mong Kok/Yau Ma Tei, then take the red minibus to Sai Kung from outside the Kwong Wah Hospital (on Dundas St, off Waterloo Rd) 5. Take the 94 Bus from Sai Kung Central Bus Station, alight at Pak Tam Au, Enjoy the hike (approx. 90 minutes) to Ham Tin or Tai Wan Beach. 6. Stay on the 96R or 94 to Wong Shek Ferry Pier, take the Public Ferry to Chek Keng Village, hike for 60 minutes. 7. From Wong Shek Ferry Pier, hire a private speedboat to take you all the way to Ham Tin Beach ($300+ for the boat), or direct from Sai Kung to Tai Long Wan (under $200 each). 8. The trail starts near the second section of the MacLehose Trail. The beginning of the hike leads visitors to stunning hillsides which provide a breathtaking view of the nearby To Kwa Peng Beach. After a short distance, the descend to Chek Keng follows. Chek Keng is like an oasis on this trail - this peaceful, tranquil inlet provides hikers the chance to take a break and have a few minutes of rest. The water view, the mangroves and the sounds of the birds create a relaxing harmony. The next trail is uphill - it leads to the pavilion of Tai Long Au. Continue the uphill climb to get to Sharp's Peak. The scenery from the peak is worth the rigorous climb - panoramic views of Ko Lau Wan and Port Island can be seen. The journey begins at Pak Kung Au, a pass sandwiched by Lantau Peak and Sunset Peak. From this spot, you'll enjoy the views of Tung Chung to the North and Cheung Sha to the South. The trail's only uphill climb is the challenging Lantau Trail - a 450-meter ascent that's covered with towering trees. Near the end of the Lantau Trail, the trees are replaced by tall grass offering a clearer view of the beautiful scenery. How to get there: There are several different approaches to hike Sunset Peak. -Pak Kung Au (320m)-Lantau County Park via Mui Wo (139m) -Wong Lung Hang County Trail (10m) -Pak Mong (2m) - The trail starts from Tung Chung Railway Station. - It follows Tat Tung Road and then turns left at the junction of Shun Tung Road. - Passing through the subway at the junction of Yu Tung Road. - Go ahead along Yu Tung Road. Afterward, tracing Tung Chung Road to the right with a short distance, it arrives at the entry of Wong Lung Hang Road on the left. - Follow Wong Lung Hang Road. Passing through the entrance to Chek Lap Kok New Village and further ahead, it comes to Wong Lung Hang Picnic Site. - From the entrance of the picnic site a few steps ahead, the trail follows Wong Lung Hang Country Trail uphill on the right. It initially ascends the long and steep flight of stone steps along the north slope of Sunset Peak. - Continue on the trail uphill, up to the junction of Lantau Trail. - Trace it to the right towards Pak Kung Au according to the signpost. Follow Lantau Trail, you will see the famous view spot at the stone chalets distributed on the hillsides of Sunset Peak.
