Shepherd's Pie
Shepherd’s pie is a popular savory dish in London. It evokes images of warmth and tradition. Yet despite the word pie attached to the name, the dish does not come encased in a pastry shell.
Instead, a layer of mashed potatoes and grated cheese covers the respective filling. The pie has ground lamb inside it. Rumor has it; the beginnings of the dish came about in the 18th century. At the time, homemakers fashioned the pie to disguise their leftovers, in particular the remnants of a Sunday roast. Nevertheless, Shepherd’s pie is the quintessential comfort food. This hearty meal is guaranteed to perk you up after a long day of touring the English capital. |
