Hot Air-Balloon
Seen images of multi-colored hot air balloons flying over a surreal landscape? If yes, then chances are they come from Cappadocia. Hailed as the most famous activity to do in this city, riding a hot air balloon definitely tops the list. Viewing the fairy chimneys from up above is a once in a lifetime experience!
The early morning sun streaming through and casting its glow on the edgy rock formations over Goreme town. This is most certainly a gorgeous sight to behold! Before getting too excited though, it’s best to be aware that riding a hot air balloon is not a year round guarantee. It’s also highly dependent on the weather. If it’s too windy, then your booked flight gets cancelled. Only 25 operators are allowed to fly a balloon but as many as 150 balloons can fly in a day. The best time to fly is from April to November. Schedule it on your first night so if cancellations occur, you can still rebook the following day. An advanced reservation is recommended weeks or months ahead since balloon rides can be full.
There’s nowhere more exciting than seeing the fairy chimneys, Rose Valley and unique Cappadocia landscape high up in the air. But prepare to fork out around 200-300usd cash. It’ s not cheap but it’s worth every cent for that incredible aerial view. There are English tours available so you’ll be able to keep up with the history and amazing stories.
The ride can take an hour to an hour and a half. The balloon can fly 3,000-6,000 feet above the ground. You’ll feel comforted and safe though since it’s under close monitoring by the Turkish Civil Aviation. Movement and direction of the balloon is dependent upon the weather and wind speed. You’ll never take off and land in the same spot. But the pilot has his ground team that’s always kept constantly updated. So there’s no reason to be nervous at all, go ahead, book a ride and feast your eyes on this surreal and intriguing rock landscape!
