Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden
Just south of Miami, in close proximity to Matheson Hammock Park is the incredibly diverse plant collection at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. Feast your eyes on the incredible multi-colored blooms and be transformed by the incredible calm and serenity delivered by nature.
Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden was opened in 1938 and named after the founder, Robert H. Montgomery’s friend, David Fairchild, an avid plant explorer. His collection of over 20,000 plants included palms, cycads and flowering trees. Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden’s aim is to preserve biodiversity. It’s designed as a museum, learning center, laboratory and a conservation research institution.
There’s a myriad of things to enjoy at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. Check out the Tropical Flowering Tree Arboretum and feel heady with the scent of warm spice. Lougheed Spiny Forest of Madagascar will give you plenty of bizarre and interesting plants to look at. Over at Simons Rainforest, you can explore the gigantic trees, gawk at the captivating orchids, and pleasantly enjoy a cascading stream and waterfalls.
Don’t miss the Wings of the Tropics exhibit and immerse yourself in an enchanting sight of colorful butterflies. Head to the Tropical Plant Conservatory and Rare Plant House to be amazed at a cork tree wrapped with orchids and ferns. If your nose catches the scent of tropical fruit, then you’re in the vicinity of Whitman Tropical Fruit Pavilion. It’s where you can appreciate the texture and taste of exotic tropical fruits like durian, mangosteen, vanilla and more. Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is a remarkable site of the world’s best and beautiful collection of plants and landscape. You’ll never run out of things to discover at the garden exhibits featuring unusual vines, exotic flower species and gorgeous orchids. Aside from the fascinating exhibits, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden has plenty of educational programs provided for everyone. Photography, horticultural and art are some of the courses they offer. Their art exhibits are highly enthralling and notable featuring outstanding artists like Yayoi Kusama, Dale Chihuly, Daisy Youngblood and the like. Art and Sculpture Garden, Chocolate Garden, Orchid Festival, International Mango Festival and Edible Garden Festival are some of the enticing places and events to look forward to.
