Top of the Golden Mount

Thanks to Bangkok’s flat land area, there is a particular temple that stands out because it is situated on a man made mountain. This temple is Wat Saket or The Great Mount Temple. The distinct structure was formed out of the debris of a collapsed chedi commissioned to be built by King Rama III. Near the base of the temple is an unusual cemetery that belongs to the late victims of the plague which happened in late 18th century. The building served as a crematorium during the dark years of Thailand.

You need to climb 344 steps for you to be on the highest peak in the temple. Upon reaching the top, visitors are rewarded with 360-degree views of Bangkok. You will be able to see the Rama VI bridge on the northwest and Bangkok’s business district on the west.

Another great reward for the tourists and locals is the unforgettable view of the sunset and the glittering image of Bangkok’s skyline. The people will be able to witness the two contrasting images of the city - the shiny new apartments and buildings as well as the shackled rooftops of the market and low income houses.

TIPS

Climbing the top would take around 300 steps. Better wear comfortable shoes and bring a bottle of water to endure.
The place opens to the public from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Make sure to visit either early in the morning or late in the afternoon – it’s unbelievably hot during high noon.
The place gets filled easily. Make sure to come early so you can secure a spot and have the best view of the sunset. Visit as early as 3:00pm.

The best time to visit the Deck is in the afternoon. Arrive early to ensure you get the best table and view to have some quiet time before the place gets crowded as the main scenic view gets nearer.

While waiting for the romantic event, you can share some cold drinks with your companion. As the sun starts setting, you will see the daily Bangkok river unfurl along the waterways and the setting and twinkling of the sun behind the incredible skyscrapers - a gorgeous sight that's nothing short of picturesque.

TIPS

Booking a table that overlooks the river and the best angle of the temple is quite a challenge. To ensure you’re going to get an ideal table, book weeks before your visit.

If you don’t have any reservation, you can come early as the restaurant is already open from 8am and closes at 11pm.
Bring a camera with you. If your main goal is to see the picturesque Wat Arun better bring a camera or a full-charged phone so you can have the best picture of the temple.

Vertigo Rooftop Bar

Other than good food and relaxing drinks, the most prized feature of Vertigo Roof Top Bar is the panoramic 360 degree view of the breathtaking skyline. Located on the 61st floor of the Banyan Tree Hotel, the Vertigo Restaurant and Moon Bar is an open air restaurant with protective bars at the side and tiered levels to equalize the views offered to its guests.

The restaurant opens at 6pm to 10:30pm. If you have a full days itinerary planned, make your visit to the restaurant after you’re done with all of the activities and enjoy good food while feasting your eyes at the glistening cityscape of Bangkok.
They serve international cuisine. Recommended attire must be smart casual. Shorts, sleeveless shirts, sandals or flip flops are not allowed here.

Be sure to arrive early – preferably around 5:30pm - before the sun sets as the best seats are quite limited.

Drinks in Vertigo Bar are more expensive than those sold in bars 60 floors below. Bring a few extra bucks to afford some of the products sold here.

Taking photos around the rooftop is not allowed, but you can take shots of the bar. This is one of their strict policies.
Do take note that the prices of drinks are expensive, so bring enough cash and your cards just in case. It ranges from ฿300 to ฿850 THB.
Try one of the bar's most popular drinks: the Hangovertini. This was the drink made for The Hangover Part II cast, as there were scenes taken in the Sky Bar. Made with green tea liquor, Martini Rosso, rosemary-infused honey, and green apple juice, this will surely make your sunset experience unforgettable.
