Imagine diving into a bowl with a mix of deep fried and boiled egg noodles. The textures make it a delight to eat. But wait till you taste its flavorful soup laden with curry paste and coconut milk. You also have your choice of meat to add into it. You can spice up the dish by adding any or all of the varied side dishes served with it. No doubt your first taste of Khao soi will not be your last. Hence, you will likely look for its taste when you get back home. If you cannot find it then you can add Khao soi as one of the reasons to go back to Thailand. |

Golden Boat Noodle Victory Monument Restaurant |
The Guaytiao Rua or Boat Noodles has made a name in dining tables for the most part of modern Thai history. Boat noodles came from the past where vendors would board and row their boats along the canals of Bangkok and sell their bowls of noodles to locals available along the canals.
With the homely ambiance and the comfy outdoor seats besides the canal, the atmosphere is perfect for some noodle-mania! Their boat noodles at first look had the same appearance as the other shops: paired with a dark soy sauce, spiced with the famous Chinese 5 spices and sometimes, at your option, cooked with pig’s blood and liver - the dishes uniqueness from the others can only be identified with the tongue: the noticeable scorching spiciness of the broth! The shop’s preference for piping hot spicy flavor is a perfect complement to any vegetable and meat ingredient - be it perfectly tender pork and beef, highly entertaining chicken and squid cuts, or street food staples of meatballs, fish balls and pork balls. The Khao Soi here is truly the best around. Your very likely to order two servings its so good. |

Gedhawa |
Even with Bangkok’s Restaurant Industry’s magnetizing popularity, there are some shops in the great capital often unnoticed by tourists, even locals themselves, but upon accidental discovery, becomes a rising star - such is the tale of Gedhawa. Located at the quiet soi off Sukhumvit, Gedhawa’s specialty is the most elusive Northern Thai dishes: the Lanna Style food. With the homey atmosphere attributable to the darkwood furniture, vintage lanterns, fabrics, textiles themed with the touch of past decades, it complements well with the treasures in their menu.
Northern Food ranging from favorite appetizers like the nam prik northern interpretations (different ingredients paired with the trademark nam prik spicy chili made sauce), Khao soi (noodles made from rice cooked in rich coconut milk), and different southern dishes accentuated by northern tastes. If you’re not a fan of northern Thai cuisine, their menu also serves the common Southern ones. The best news about Gedhawa is its affordable price, the quality of their servings may look expensive, but for a range of 100 to 200 baht, you can afford a sumptuous meal - that’s roughly 3 to 6 USD! |
